Alexandria + Spencer, 1920s inspired Vio Lido Newport Beach

Alexandria was in one of my favorite pictures (see below) from her brother’s wedding so I was excited when she asked me to do a 1920s inspired shoot for her engagement. Ally and Spencer are the perfect 1920s couple who exude romance and passion. Spencer looked straight out of Boardwalk Empire, while Ally looked so elegant in her fancy real 1920s dresses! I had such a great time with them and got to see Anastasia (her sister in law and former DGP bride) so it was a double whammy of awesome people and funs!

I had three ideas for this shoot: Dancing on the Newport Beach Pier, Vio Lido Newport Beach Theater and a bar (we ended up getting a Martini at one of my favorite places in Costa Mesa, La Cave.)

Hair: Rachael Drootin at Charmed Beauty.
Makeup: Brandie Bedell
Lighting assistant: Asastasia De Leon : )

We started at my house, since it is also from the 1920s.

Then headed to the Newport Beach Pier for some gorgeous sun set, romantic images.

We happened upon this old car in a parking lot.

Since the Vio Lido Newport Beach Theater is art deco, it was a perfect place for the feeling of this shoot.

La Cave.

One of my favorite pictures that Alexandria was in. Thanks so much Ally, Spencer, Anastasia, Rachael and Brandie for making this shoot so fun!

Here’s one from a really fun 1920s style shoot. I just adore this couple, how they photographed and can’t wait to post more!

Destinie’s Graduation Announcements

I shot Destinie’s graduation pictures back in December. She decided to have me design announcements out of them and I’m so happy with how they turned out! They are 4.5×5 post cards printed on a shimmery thick paper. I had to find some hearts to include in the design; they represent Destinie’s cute personality perfectly!

Photog ShootOut

Last week, I joined SoCal Photog ShootOut to lead a group.  I highly recommend attending one. I went a few months ago and got so much out of it. So I was really excited when Hanssie asked if I wanted to lead a group. They have several ones all over the country that take place pretty often. Thanks to Hanssie, Matt and Rob for having me! Rob was the main speaker who inspired me with ways I can better my business.

What I talked about was finding the right clients since I seem to attract such fabulous people! It was a good learning experience for me and my type of “leading” which is more like a collaboration. It’s the same principle I apply when I shoot my client-friends; I’m inspired by who they are and the kinds of things they like.

I spent much more time talking to photographers (which I take so much out of) and my model than I did shooting, which I feel is an important thing to do. I’m all about getting to know my clients. It helps everyone feel comfortable and get better pictures. I believe it’s even more important than being technically good.

But here’s few pictures I did take, so this post isn’t boring!

This is my model Kristin, who I just adored! I hope I get to work with her again. If you go to SoCal Photog ShootOut you can see tons of other photographer’s pictures that turned out so good!
